Lax skin in the face, neck, arms, chest, abdomen and legs due to aging or life events such as weight loss or childbirth can now be addressed with minimally invasive technology. Many people are either not ready or poor candidates for excisional (skin removal) procedures. These potential patients are often left with disappointing options for improvement, including externally applied energy-based devices that routinely overpromise and underdeliver.
Loose skin that remains after lipocontouring alone contracts by roughly 8% throughout the year following surgery. This minimal amount of “natural” contraction is frequently disappointing and adds an element of unpredictability following liposuction procedures.
Renuvion® is a revolutionary device that delivers helium plasma and radiofrequency energy through a probe inserted by a surgeon beneath the skin to precisely target and heat the structural components. Renuvion® heats the tissue to 85° Celsius (185° Fahrenheit), the optimal temperature for maximal coagulation, yet allows for rapid cooling to protect vital surrounding structures. This is accomplished without raising the skin temperature or bulk heating the surrounding tissue, dramatically reducing the risk of burns or dents, respectively. This is simply not possible with devices that deliver energy externally through the skin. Following treatment with Renuvion®, skin may tighten up to 65% following coagulation of the soft tissues, which is unmatched by other available devices. What to Expect
All procedures are done in a balanced and natural esthetic.
Consultation
During the consultation we will focus on creating a treatment plan that addresses your goals and fulfills your expectations. We will discuss your areas of concern and the opportunities for contour improvement using the Renuvion® device. In some cases, liposuction may be required to alleviate tissue bulk prior to skin tightening and in others skin laxity may be the only concern.
We will review your current exercise regimen, diet and history of weight fluctuation. In this way, I can properly counsel you on the expected long-term result. For instance, if you have recently lost weight on a crash diet, then the liposculpture result we achieve will be short-lived as you return to your regular diet and exercise habits. Incision locations will be demonstrated so that you will leave the consultation with a clear idea of the expected result. Renuvion® is an incredible technology that allows for minimally invasive skin coagulation that produces truly impressive post-procedural results.
Renuvion is not FDA indicated for skin tightening alone. The soft tissue coagulation that occurs upon using the device may ultimately result in a variable amount of skin tightening may be beneficial to patients seeking this result.
Surgery
For isolated Renuvion® skin coagulation, in-office treatment under local anesthesia may be considered. For broad and multiple treatment areas, concurrent large volume liposuction and for patients who wish to have sedation or general anesthesia, the procedure is performed at an accredited surgery center in Newport Beach, California, USA. Under the care of a Board Certified Anesthesiologist, anesthesia is used to ensure maximal comfort and safety. The length of the surgery varies according to the extent of contouring that must be performed. Patience is the key to achieving the best possible outcome during these procedures. Care is taken to hide the tiny access incisions in natural body creases so that they are nearly imperceptible upon complete healing.
Recovery
Patients are discharged home the same day and generally experience very minimal discomfort, often returning to light work within days following the procedure. Post-operatively, patients are advised to gradually resume their exercise regimen over a 4-week period in order to ensure proper healing. During the 6-weeks following surgery, a compression garment is worn to control swelling and mold the final contour.
Results
Immediately following the use of Renuvion®, the skin undergoes contraction, creating an instant improvement in the tone and contour of the skin. Over the ensuing 5-8 months, the collagen in the skin continues to remodel causing further improvement in the body contour. The results are ultimately intended to be long lasting provided a healthy and active lifestyle is maintained.
